Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Finance Director (FD) to join our import-export business based in Manchester, UK. As the Finance Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and driving the financial performance of the company. Note: The import-export business is based in Manchester, UK. The role may require occasional travel.
- Financial Strategy and Planning: Develop and execute the company's financial strategy, aligning it with the overall business objectives and long-term goals. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis: Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Conduct thorough financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with department heads to establish realistic financial targets. Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates to senior management.
- Cash Flow Management: Manage and optimize the company's cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs. Develop and implement cash flow forecasting and monitoring processes.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices. Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the company's assets.
- Tax and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all tax obligations, including VAT, customs duties, and other relevant import-export regulations. Liaise with external tax advisors as necessary.
- Financial Operations: Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and treasury management. Review and improve financial processes and systems to drive efficiency and accuracy.
- Stakeholder Management: Serve as the key finance contact for internal stakeholders, providing financial insights and guidance. Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as banks, auditors, and advisors.
- Team Leadership: Manage and develop the finance team, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback. Foster a collaborative and high-performing finance function.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within the finance department. Drive initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities.
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a strong finance background.
- Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role, preferably as a Finance Director or Financial Controller, within an import-export business.
- In-depth knowledge of import-export finance, including VAT, customs duties, and associated regulations.
- Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide strategic insights and recommendations.
- Excellent knowledge of UK GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Experience in managing cash flow, working capital, and risk management.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and proficiency in financial software applications.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
