Portfolio FD

Portfolio Finance Director

A Portfolio Finance Director or Portfolio FD is a Finance Director who splits his or her time across a number of clients at the same time, so in effect has several part time roles at the same time. Working in this way makes good sense for all concerned.

An FD can make the most of their skills by focussing on roles which need their specialism the most whilst an employer gets to recruit an experienced senior professional often to what is an SME which stand alone would not be able to attract professionals of the highest calibre.

Here are FD Capital we are specialists at recruiting and supplying Portfolio Finance Directors, currently we focus on the West Midlands / Shropshire and London and the South East however from time to time

We have clients who have roles out of area and can always find great candidates through our partners across the UK.

There are many benefits to this way of working.

  • Access to skills only usually found in larger corporates.
  • Fractional costs you only pay pro-rata for the days worked.
  • Ability to flex up or down the time requirements to match your business cycle and key events such as fund raising.

Many of our team have been entrepreneurs themselves so can really relate to our owner manager client base.

Why bring a Portfolio FD on board

Hiring an FD or CFO means that you can have a dedicated person on your team to deal with the financial side of your business. Not everyone who starts a business comes from within the industry or has the knowledge to do things like forecasting or troubleshooting. With an FD, you get to take advantage of their skills and experience to get your business back on track or smash your growth goals.

The role of FD or CFO is as much about strategy and planning as it is about monitoring the company’s cash flow. For any company to implement a new strategy, you need to have someone on your team with the specialist skills and knowledge to access your current systems and implement alternatives.

A Portfolio FD gives you all of these advantages but on a fractional time and cost basis.

Bringing an FD on board is a major decision that you want to get right. Our guide is designed to help you make the right decision for you and your business.

How we work

If one of our team is available and the location works then we put them forward as preferred candidates, as we already know them and they have a track record with us. If an opportunity comes along that is outside of the areas where our FD’s and CFO’s are based (less of an issue now that businesses are more open to remote working) then we go out to the market in much the same way as regular Senior Finance Recruitment service does. We have a lot of candidates on our database from previous assignments which have all been pre-interviewed. Nearly all of our candidates are ICAEW qualified.

FD Capital are a leading provider of Portfolio Finance Directors.

Should I Recruit My FD on a Full-Time or Part-Time Basis?

Hiring a part-time FD means that you can take advantage of the same expert knowledge and the individual’s experience within the industry without the extra financial cost of hiring someone full-time. Choosing a part-time or full-time FD will depend on the needs of your business.
