Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Finance Director to join our £12m precision engineering business based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. As the Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in driving the financial success and growth of the company. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the business and providing key insights and recommendations to support decision-making processes. Responsibilities

 

  1. Financial Management:
  • Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures to optimize the company's financial performance.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including management accounts, budget analysis, and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance indicators, identify areas for improvement, and provide recommendations for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and overall profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements.
  1. Strategic Planning and Analysis:
  • Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute the company's strategic plans and long-term financial objectives.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including profitability analysis, investment appraisals, and scenario modeling, to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide financial insights and guidance on potential risks and opportunities, enabling the business to make informed decisions and adapt to changing market conditions.
  1. Cash Flow and Working Capital Management:
  • Develop and implement effective cash flow forecasting and working capital management strategies to optimize liquidity and support operational needs.
  • Monitor cash flow performance, identify potential cash flow gaps or constraints, and recommend appropriate actions to ensure the company's financial stability.
  1. Financial Planning and Budgeting:
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with department heads to establish realistic financial targets.
  • Monitor budget performance and variance analysis, providing regular updates to stakeholders and recommending corrective actions when necessary.
  • Drive cost control initiatives and efficiency improvements across the business.
  1. Stakeholder Management and Relationship Building:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including banks, auditors, and other external parties.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for financial matters, representing the company in financial negotiations, acquisitions, and collaborations.
  1. Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, encouraging their development and success.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; professional certifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience (minimum 8 years) in a senior finance leadership role, preferably within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Solid knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and decision-making abilities, with a track record of contributing to business growth and profitability.
  • Experience in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong understanding of working capital management and cash flow optimization.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software systems and MS Excel.
