We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Non-Executive Director or Chair to join the board of a high-growth, privately backed construction and civils business based in Manchester. This appointment comes at a pivotal point in the company’s growth trajectory, as it prepares to expand its operational footprint and capitalise on new market opportunities across infrastructure, energy, and large-scale manufacturing projects.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide independent oversight, challenge, and support to the executive team in shaping long-term strategic direction.
  • Support governance, risk management, and board effectiveness, ensuring compliance with best practice and regulatory standards.
  • Bring insight from across construction, engineering, or related sectors to advise on operational scale-up, client delivery, and market expansion.
  • Help identify growth opportunities in adjacent sectors including energy, FMCG, and manufacturing.
  • Offer guidance on potential M&A activity, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities.
Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Proven board-level experience as a Non-Executive Director or Chair, ideally within construction, civil engineering, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities in high-growth businesses.
  • Experience working with or advising private equity-backed companies is highly desirable.
  • Well-connected within the UK infrastructure, energy, or manufacturing markets.
  • Committed to good governance, with the ability to act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and board.
