About the Company
We are a specialist home improvement business based in Cambridge, delivering high-quality, bespoke solutions to homeowners across the region. With the business entering its next phase of expansion, we are seeking an experienced Fractional Finance Director to provide strategic financial leadership and help steer the company through its growth journey.
The Role
As Fractional Finance Director, you will work closely with the Managing Director and senior management team to provide high-level financial oversight, strategic input, and hands-on financial management. You will ensure robust financial planning, reporting, and control frameworks are in place to support profitable growth and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and management reporting.
- Partner with the Managing Director to develop and execute the company’s financial strategy.
- Introduce and refine financial systems, processes, and controls to support scalability.
- Provide insight and analysis on profitability, margins, and cost control.
- Manage relationships with external accountants, banks, and other financial partners.
- Lead quarterly and annual financial reviews and support board reporting.
- Support funding or investment activities if required (e.g., growth financing, CAPEX planning).
- Mentor and develop the existing finance and operations team, ensuring best practices are embedded.
- Advise on pricing, capital allocation, and growth opportunities to optimise returns.
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with proven post-qualification experience.
- Previous experience as a Finance Director, Financial Controller, or senior finance business partner, ideally within an SME environment.
- Commercially minded with a hands-on approach and ability to work effectively in an owner-managed business.
- Experience in the home improvement, construction, or specialist trades sector would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and support non-financial stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fractional or portfolio capacity.
