Compensation: £150,000 pro / £950 per day + VAT

A high-growth, vertically integrated insurance intermediary and law firm group with 10 years of successful operation. With a group turnover of £8 million and annual transactions exceeding £30 million, the business spans insurance brokerage, claims TPA, and legal services. The group is dynamic, technology-forward (70% insurtech/AI/LLM stack), and run by two entrepreneurial founders.
The structure includes:
- Five operational units
- 35 employees
- Two separate employers
- Offices in North Wales, Bristol (potential expansion), and London
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Finance Director to oversee, improve, and streamline the financial operations across multiple entities. You will own the end-to-end finance function, from bookkeeping to strategic financial planning, and act as a key business partner to the founders and operational heads.
This is a complex and rewarding opportunity for someone who thrives in multi-entity, high-transaction environments with an appetite for solving legacy issues and future-proofing financial infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Full ownership of financial control, reporting, compliance, and forecasting across all group entities
- Oversee legal and insurance bookkeeping, including inter-group cross-charging and trust accounting
- Develop, manage, and optimise budgets and P&Ls across multiple business units
- Manage accounting integrations across:
- Xero – core finance platform
- IBS – insurance ledger
- LEAP – legal practice management software
- Improve cash flow visibility, reporting cadence, and working capital management
- Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies as needed
- Support decision-making for large salaries vs. dividends strategies, considering ownership structure
- Help manage and mitigate business risk through smart finance and legal integration
- Provide commercial insights to leadership team and participate in strategic planning
- Build internal processes to support rapid scale and digital transformation
- Lead or support tech-driven finance initiatives with AI/LLM integration
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Finance Director, ideally in professional services, insurance, or law firm environments
- Strong understanding of multi-entity accounting, inter-company billing, and regulatory compliance
- Confident with finance tools and integrations: Xero, LEAP, IBS (or similar)
- Skilled in handling complex ownership structures, remuneration planning, and offshore considerations
- Strategic thinker with hands-on delivery capability – able to “fix” as well as “lead”
- Experience managing finance for fast-growth businesses
- High level of integrity, ownership, and commercial acumen
- Comfortable working with founders, operational leads, and emerging tech teams
