Position title
Portfolio / Fractional CFO - Remote
Description

Location: Remote (UK-based candidates preferred; the group's operating businesses are based in the North West of England) Day rate: £700–£1,200 per day, dependent on experience Engagement: Part-time / fractional, with potential to scale for the right candidate Sector: Multi-business private group — property, acquisitions and care services

The Opportunity

FD Capital is recruiting on behalf of a privately-owned group of UK businesses spanning property investment, active M&A, and care services. The owner is based overseas and is looking for an experienced Portfolio or Fractional CFO to provide senior financial leadership across three distinct but connected businesses.

This is a rare opportunity to work across a live sell-side process, an active buy-side acquisition programme, and an operational turnaround — all within one fractional mandate. The right candidate will be highly commercially minded, comfortable moving between strategic and hands-on work, and confident engaging directly with an owner who is not based in the UK.

What the Role Covers

Exit readiness (core property business) The group's principal trading business has an established turnover in the tens of millions and strong EBITDA, with current management accounts and a business now preparing for exit — either trade sale or PE-backed transaction. You will help refine exit strategy, prepare the business for due diligence, field buyer Q&A, and ensure the numbers and narrative present the business in its best light.

Acquisitions The group is in active acquisition mode, targeting businesses with EBITDA broadly in the £1m–£7m range. You will review target company accounts, assess financial health, help structure financing conversations with lenders and investors, and add credibility to investor decks and pitch materials.

Care services business A younger business in the group, operating multiple regulated care homes and targeting profitability this year. You will hold the operational director accountable to the numbers, provide regular financial briefings to the owner, and help build robust financial infrastructure and reporting from a relatively early base.

Responsibilities

What We're Looking For
Proven experience as a CFO, FD, or senior finance leader across transactional (exit/M&A) and operational finance
Direct experience preparing a business for sale or leading through due diligence, ideally including buyer-facing Q&A
Comfort reviewing acquisition targets and building lender/investor-facing materials
A genuinely commercial mindset — sector experience is welcome but not essential; the client is prioritising deal and financial leadership experience over specific sector background
Confidence working fractionally across multiple entities simultaneously, and reporting directly to an owner based outside the UK
Available for 2–3 days per week, with flexibility around timing given the owner's overseas base

Why Apply

This mandate offers unusually broad exposure for a fractional role — live exit preparation, active M&A, and operational scale-up — all at once, working directly with a hands-on founder-owner. It suits an experienced portfolio CFO who enjoys variety and can move fluidly between boardroom strategy and getting into the detail with an operational team.
