The Company

Our client is an ambitious, UK-based climate-tech business now four years into its journey and entering its scale-up phase. Having progressed through seed funding, the company is preparing for a Series A round targeted for late 2026 or early 2027, underpinned by commercial off-take agreements and the prospect of further government-backed support. The business operates from the Gloucester area and is looking to bring in senior financial leadership with the credibility and experience to take it through this next, pivotal stage of growth.

This is a genuine opportunity to join a capital-intensive technology business at a formative point — shaping the financial strategy and investor narrative that will underpin a significant institutional raise, with the door open to a longer-term, potentially permanent, role should both sides wish to continue beyond the fundraise.

Responsibilities

The Role

FD Capital is recruiting a fractional or interim CFO to work closely with the founding team to prepare for, and help lead, the company's Series A fundraising process. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role suited to a finance leader who has been through this exact journey before and can bring pattern-recognition, investor relationships and financial rigour to a business moving from grant-and-seed funding into institutional capital.

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Leading preparation for the Series A raise, including financial modelling, forecasting and scenario planning
  • Building the data room, investor materials and supporting due diligence documentation
  • Advising on valuation, deal structure and negotiation alongside the founders and existing investors
  • Strengthening financial controls, reporting and governance to institutional-investor standard
  • Managing relationships with existing shareholders, advisors and potential new investors
  • Supporting management of off-take agreements and any government grant or programme funding as they intersect with the wider capital strategy
  • Providing broader commercial and financial leadership to the business as it scales, working closely with the founding team on-site
Qualifications

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • A proven track record of having successfully led or played a senior role in a Series A raise (or a comparable institutional funding round)
  • Prior experience in climate, energy, deep-tech, or another capital-intensive technology sector
  • Professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Comfortable and willing to work on-site in the Gloucester area on a regular basis — this is not a remote-first engagement
  • Experience operating as a fractional or interim CFO, or equivalent senior finance leadership in a scale-up environment

Desirable:

  • Direct experience of grant funding alongside equity fundraising (e.g. Innovate UK or similar programmes)
  • Familiarity with off-take agreements or other structured commercial arrangements common to capital-intensive technology businesses
  • Prior experience taking a business from seed through to Series A and beyond
  • Board-level investor relations experience

Why Apply

This mandate offers a rare combination: a well-funded, credible climate-tech business with real commercial traction, a clearly defined fundraising target, and a founding team actively seeking experienced financial leadership rather than simply outsourcing the finance function. For the right candidate, there is a genuine path from fractional engagement to a permanent seat at the table as the company scales.
