Position title
Fractional CFO - Creative Technology Agency
Description

Location: London (WeWork/hybrid) with occasional overseas coordination
Day rate: £800–£1,200

Time commitment: 3 days/week initially, reducing to c.2 days/week once embedded, with flexibility for peak periods
Engagement type: Fractional/part-time, ongoing

The Opportunity

Our client is an independent, award-winning creative technology agency working with some of the world's best-known brands across advertising, digital experience and immersive content. With studios across two continents and a headcount of over 100, they've built a genuinely global reputation for craft and innovation — and are now entering an important next chapter of strategic growth.

Having reached the point where day-to-day bookkeeping is well covered internally but strategic financial leadership is not, they're looking for an experienced fractional CFO to become a trusted, hands-on partner to the leadership team.

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing

  • Elevating existing Xero-based reporting into genuine commercial insight — building out agency-specific KPIs such as utilisation, project margin and resourcing efficiency
  • Mentoring and upskilling the internal finance team
  • Leading the financial and tax structuring for a planned US market expansion, including group structure options (e.g. holding company considerations), most efficient jurisdictional setup, and support for related property decisions
  • Designing and implementing a tax-efficient management incentive scheme (e.g. EMI)
  • Laying the groundwork for a future sale — expected in the region of two years or more away — including improving financial controls, EBITDA visibility and multi-currency group consolidation across international entities, in preparation for eventual buyer due diligence
  • Acting as a genuine board-level thinking partner to the founders, not just a technical resource
Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • Proven fractional or interim CFO/FD experience, ideally within an agency, media, or creative/professional services environment
  • Strong track record in group structuring and international expansion, particularly UK-to-US
  • Comfortable working with Xero and translating financial data into commercial decision-making
  • Experience implementing EMI or similar management incentive schemes
  • M&A/exit-readiness exposure is a plus, though not the primary focus in year one
  • Above all: a collaborative, approachable style. This client has previously worked with a technically excellent CFO whose manner didn't land well with the team — they are prioritising the right personal chemistry and communication style every bit as highly as technical capability
