Role
FD Capital is working with a well-established, owner-managed independent financial advice firm in Central London. It is directly authorised and regulated by the FCA, specialises in a niche professional client market, and employs over 40 people, including a team of advisers.
The business is growing and modernising, and the owners want a Finance Director to lead it. This is a hands-on, embedded role rather than a light-touch monthly review. You’ll attend the weekly leadership meetings and the quarterly and annual off-sites, working closely with the CEO and owner-directors. You’ll oversee the finances of the operating company and the holding company, and give the board the forecasting, insight and financial discipline it needs to scale.
The focus is organic growth, not acquisitions or financial engineering. You’ll strengthen the finance function, sharpen the reporting and get the business ready for future opportunities.
Lead the finance function across the operating company and holding company, overseeing both balance sheets
Build and own cash-flow models, rolling forecasts and budgets that support the firm’s growth plans
Produce clear, board-ready reports and KPI packs for the owner-directors and the leadership team
Assess revenue quality and recurring income, and interrogate the cost base to improve margin and efficiency
Oversee financial resources and capital adequacy requirements under the FCA’s prudential rules, and make sure regulatory financial reporting is accurate and on time
Advise on adviser remuneration structures and their commercial and regulatory implications
Work with the risk and governance team as a trusted senior colleague, bringing financial rigour to governance and Consumer Duty reporting
Act as a confidential sounding board for the CEO on strategy, investment and operational decisions
Keep data-room-ready financial information and prepare materials for potential future approaches
Manage the part-time financial controller and external accountancy support, and improve processes, systems and controls
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with senior finance leadership experience at FD or CFO level
Experience in FCA-regulated financial services, ideally financial advice, wealth management or investment firms
Working knowledge of FCA prudential requirements, including capital adequacy and regulatory financial returns
Strong skills in forecasting, cash-flow modelling and management reporting
Confident writing board reports and presenting to owner-directors
Comfortable in an owner-managed business, where discretion, judgement and trust matter
The credibility to earn the respect of the risk and governance team and to challenge constructively
Able to pass a fit and proper assessment
A small fractional portfolio (typically two or three clients) and the capacity to commit about two days a week in person in Central London
A meaningful, embedded role in a respected, growing regulated business
Direct influence on strategy at board level alongside the owner-directors
Flexible fractional engagement on a day-rate basis, about two days a week
A Central London base with a collaborative leadership team
Scope to shape a modernised finance function and leave a lasting mark on the business
Prompt start for the right candidate
