The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for a qualified accountant with direct experience in a project-based, cost-sensitive environment — ideally within construction, engineering, infrastructure, quantity surveying, building services, specialist subcontracting, or construction consultancy. You should be comfortable working hands-on rather than purely at a strategic or oversight level, and confident mentoring and developing an existing Finance Manager.

Experience with Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR), work-in-progress reporting, and forecast-to-complete methodology on live projects is highly valued. Familiarity with construction-sector job-costing systems is an advantage.

Working Pattern

This role is expected to start at around two days per month, with scope to grow if the appointed candidate demonstrates clear value to the business. The client is open-minded on a largely remote working pattern for the right candidate, provided there is meaningful in-person attendance at the Chelmsford office — approximately once a fortnight as a starting point. Chelmsford station is a short walk from the office, with local parking available.
